The beaches around Punta Banco, a few kilometers south of Pavones, receive nesting sea turtles — primarily olive ridleys — with nesting concentrated in the rainy-season months (roughly July through December; timing varies by year).
Punta Banco is home to a long-running community conservation project that patrols the beach, protects nests in a hatchery, and releases hatchlings — local people doing the work, with visits and volunteering welcomed in season. Reach the project through Municipal & Community.
Turtles nest at night: go with a local guide, keep lights red and dim, no flash photos, stay behind the turtle and never touch or block her path back to the sea. A hatchling release at sunset is the family-friendly option.

Las playas de Punta Banco, a pocos kilómetros al sur de Pavones, reciben tortugas anidando — principalmente loras (olive ridley) — concentradas en los meses lluviosos (aprox. julio a diciembre; varía según el año).
