The Golfo Dulce shelters resident dolphin pods year-round — spotted and bottlenose dolphins that ride bow waves within minutes of leaving the beach. Morning trips get the calmest water and the best light.
The gulf is famous as a humpback nursery: whales from the southern hemisphere arrive roughly July–October, and northern-hemisphere humpbacks pass through around December–March — mothers with calves are a common sight in season. Ask the captains what's being seen this week.
Golfo Dulce is one of only a handful of tropical fjords on the planet — deep, calm and biologically rich, which is why the dolphins stay and the whales come to calve. It's also quietly famous for year-round bioluminescence on night tours.
Tours leave right from the Pavones side of the gulf — no need to drive to Puerto Jiménez. Message local operators under Tours, or combine with a morning of fishing.
El Golfo Dulce alberga manadas residentes de delfines todo el año — manchados y nariz de botella que juegan en la proa a minutos de la playa. Las mañanas tienen el agua más calma y la mejor luz.
El golfo es guardería de jorobadas: las del hemisferio sur llegan aprox. de julio a octubre, y las del norte pasan por diciembre–marzo — madres con crías son comunes en temporada. Pregunte a los capitanes qué se está viendo.
El Golfo Dulce es uno de los poquísimos fiordos tropicales del planeta — profundo, calmo y riquísimo en vida; por eso los delfines se quedan y las ballenas vienen a parir. También es famoso por su bioluminiscencia en tours nocturnos.
